Walter W. "Wally" Gibbons

Walter W. "Wally" Gibbons, 79, of Elizabeth Township, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 11, 2018. He was born in McKeesport on May 31, 1938 and was the son of the late Walter and Helen (Winkler) Gibbons. He was a member of the Elizabeth Baptist Church where he served many positions. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Directors Association, the Elizabeth Forward Alumni and Friends Association and the Elizabeth Township Seniors. Wally was a Teacher, Head Basketball Coach,  Head Track Coach and was also Athletic Director at Elizabeth Forward High School. He retired after 33 years of service. He taught World Cultures, History, English, Science and Math. He was a graduate of McKeesport High School and Clemson University where he attended on a Basketball Scholarship. He also served on the Elizabeth Forward School Board. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darla Ruth Golz Gibbons, daughters, Debra Ruth Gibbons and her lifetime partner, Donald R. Short of Pleasant Hills and Lynn Renee' and her husband Frank Przywarty of New Castle, grandson, Nichalas Gibbons Przywarty,  sister-in-law, Bernice and her husband Bill Vaughn of McKeesport, a niece, Nancy and her husband Tom Andrejko, nephew, David and his wife, Marianne Vaughn, great-nieces and great-nephews and many special cousins and friends. Family and friends are welcome Tuesday, February 13 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, February 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Interment will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth Baptist Church at 735 Bunola Road, Elizabeth PA 15037.
