John William Shoben, Jr., 66, of West Newton, succumbed to cancer, Saturday, November 24, 2018. He was born November 27, 1951 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John William and Florence (Yates) Shoben. John was an Electrician and was retired from Hickman Electric. He was a US Navy Veteran and served during the Vietnam War. For his service, he received the Good Conduct Award and the National Defense Service Medal. John loved fishing with his children on the Youghiogheny River, taking car rides with his dog Kramer, and spending time sharing memories with his fellow veteran friends. John was also passionate about art and would spend most of his free time creating small personalized art sculptures, crafting from rocks that he gathered from river banks along the Youghiogheny River and got enjoyment from sharing his creations with family, friends, care givers and fellow veterans. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Freda Elizabeth (Semke) Shoben, daughter, Jessica Cybil (Jack Waltonbaugh, III.) Shoben of Elizabeth Township, son, Johnathan Jeremy Shoben of West Newton, sister, Barbara (Leonard) Norman of Greensburg, twin-sister, Joan (Victor) Kyslinger of Concorde, NC, brother, William (Kyndall) Shoben of Elizabeth Township, nieces, nephews and his faithful dog, Kramer. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daryl Shoben. There is no visitation. Service with Military Honors will be held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
