Edward Greenewald

Edward  Greenewald, 89, of Elizabeth Township and Whitacre, VA , died Thursday, March  1, 2018. He was born May 16, 1928 in Christy Park and was the son of the late Herman and Marie Greenewald. He was the husband of the late Betty Lee Whitacre Greenewald who died February 21, 2014. Edward was a member of the Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth Twp., and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Elizabeth Pantry. He worked for US Steel Irvin Works Engineering Department and retired from the Accounting Department of US Steel Homestead Works. Edward was a Korean veteran and served in the Armored Division. He kept active playing golf and traveling. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Lee (Dr. Kerry) Bertschinger and his son, Robert E.  Greenewald of Gore, VA, grandchildren, Brandy Lee, Bridget Lee and Brent Van Bertschinger, sister, Marie Plecenik of North Huntingdon, great-grandchildren, Vannah, Aubrey, Zander and Keidan, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie Kenney and brothers, Albert "Rubbie", Walter, Herman, and Otto Greenewald. Friends are welcome Sunday, March 4 from 4-8 pm. at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, director.
