Audrey Jean Bohlin

June 10, 1930 — July 6, 2021

Audrey June (Reese) Bohlin, 91, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Greenock, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at home. Born on June 10, 1930, in McKeesport, she was the second daughter and the second of four children born to the late Urban J. and Loretta (Williams) Reese. She was the wife of Albert F. Bohlin, who owned and operated an automotive repair business in McKeesport. They were long-time residents of Greenock, moving to Redstone after they both retired in the late 1980s. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2002. After graduating from McKeesport High School in 1948, she was hired as a telephone operator at the Bettis Atomic Power Lab in West Mifflin. She worked at Bettis until her retirement in 1988. At the time she retired, she was responsible for the training and scheduling of all the facility’s telephone operators. It was during this time that Westinghouse Electric Corp., in cooperation with the U.S. Navy, designed, developed, tested and built the power plant for the country’s first nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Nautilus. Launched in 1954, the submarine was decommissioned in 1980 and eventually turned into a museum. In addition to her work at Bettis, Audrey served as the part-time office manager, billing and parts department clerk for her husband’s business, an auto repair shop located near the old Olympia Shopping Center. While living in Greenock she was a 40-plus-year active member of the Greenock United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and assisting with record keeping, finances and fund-raising activities. She served on every church committee, taught Sunday school, assisted with the church’s funeral meals and day-care programs. An active supporter of the Greenock volunteer fire department, she assisted with its fund-raising efforts, including the popular summer fireman’s fair. After moving to Redstone, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin. Audrey was preceded in death by her older sister, Ellen McLean of Greenock, and a younger sister and brother, Mary Patricia Weitz of Oahu, Hawaii, and Urban J. Reese Jr. of Kansas City, Mo. She is also survived by three nephews and five nieces. Friends are welcome Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 2-6 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, director.
