Joan Frances McGuire

Joan Frances McGuire, 86, of Elizabeth Township, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 9, 2015. She was born December 6, 1928 in Duquesne and was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Flaherty McLinden. She was the wife of the late William J. McGuire who died July 6, 2002. Joan was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Mercy Hospital Alumni and the former St. Denis Catholic Church and St. Peter's Catholic Church where she was a volunteer for their fish fry during Lent. Joan was a retired Registered Nurse and had worked in the Mercy Hospital Recovery Room and the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Aspinwall. After retirement, Joan was a volunteer at the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room. She is survived by her sons, Kevin McGuire of China, Patrick (Christine) McGuire of Elizabeth Township and Paul (Florence) McGuire of Flagstaff, AZ, daughters, Mary McGuire of Elizabeth Township and Megan McGuire of Pittsburgh, daughter-in-law, Natasha McGuire of Seattle, WA, grandchildren, Andre', Danny, Kathryn, Victoria, Neil, Nola, Flint, and Talitha, great-grandchildren, Samone and Seth, nieces and nephews, She was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Hill Campbell, brother, James McLinden, Jr., and her beloved dogs, Evie and Shiralee. Friends are welcome Wednesday, November 11 from 6-8 pm., and Thursday November 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Patrick Church on Friday, November 13 at 10:00 AM with The Rev. Vincent P. Velas, officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Full Life Rescue, Inc., 906 Ramsey Street, Pittsburgh PA 15221.
