Robert F. Hope

December 9, 1924 — August 4, 2015

Robert "Bob" F. Hope, 90, of Jefferson Hills, left peacefully for eternal life on Tuesday August 4, 2015. He was born December 9, 1924 in Anaconda, MT, and was the son of the late George T. and Gladys Campbell Hope. Bob was a convert to Catholicism and was an active member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in Pleasant Hills until his home confinement. Bob enlisted in the US Navy at age 17 and served as a First Class Petty Officer in the European, Pacific, and Asiatic Theatre in charge of battleship communications. After 4 years of active service he returned to civilian life to complete his formal education under the GI Bill which enabled him to use his natural management skills to move up quickly to a supervisory position at the former Fisher Body General Motors Plant in West Mifflin. He retired after 35 years of service. He was the beloved husband of Narinjan Hope, the much loved dad of Lynda Phillips and Jim Hope. He was the beloved step dad of Elaine, Maxine, and Joel Sherman who affectionately named him "The because I said so Dad", the admired grandpa of Brian, Sean, Jeremy, Brandon, Justin, Zachary, Gabrielle and Olivia, and the great-grandpa of Kiley and Joey Phillips. He was an authentic and amusing grandpa. His words were few, his caring actions many as he shared with all his children and grandchildren his fishing, camping, hunting and golfing skills. He also fascinated them with his coming of age stories both believable and unbelievable. Bob enjoyed planting flowers, tomatoes, black berries, and watching his favorite blooms of California Poppies. He was fascinated with thunderstorms and sunsets and visits to California to see his siblings. He was the second oldest of 10 children and was "Big Brother" to Gene, Dwayne (Terry), Charlee, Hughie, Jani, and Faith. He was preceded in death by siblings George and Judy. There is no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 8 at 10:00 AM at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, Pleasant Hills. (Please gather at the church at 9:30AM). The Rev. Dale DeNinno will be officiating. Military Honors will follow. Private burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mass Cards are appreciated for the repose of his soul, or memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth Food Bank. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Condolences may be made at gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com .
