Dr. Eugene Reichenfeld

Dr. Eugene "Gene" Reichenfeld, 103, of North Versailles, formerly of Elizabeth Twp, died Saturday, December 20, 2014. He was born August 15, 1911 in Hungary and was the son of the late Sigmund Reichenfeld and Helen Karpeles Reichenfeld. Gene was a Music Educator and taught in the Turtle Creek and Penn Hills Public Schools, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duquesne University Graduate School. He was Music Director and Conductor for the Wilkinsburg Civic Symphony, Reichenfeld String Sinfonietta, Kennerdell Festival Symphony and was Guest Conductor at P.M.E.A Festivals. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Duquesne University, a Citation from the Pennsylvania State Legislature and Wilkinsburg Chamber of Commerce for Outstanding Community Service and a Citation of Excellence from P.M.E.A. He was a graduate of Duquesne University and also attended Michigan University and the Peabody Conservatory Advanced Studies. Gene is survived by his wife of 32 years, Catherine Gloria Connolly Hand Reichenfeld, sons, Arthur (Janice) Reichenfeld of Sharon, Kevin L. (Karen) Hand of Yardley, and Sean (Lori) Hand of Reading, MA, daughters, Geraldine (Donald Liepold) Reichenfeld Schultz of Occidental, CA, and Lisa (Daniel) Wittig of White Oak, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by brothers and sisters. Friends are welcome Saturday, December 27 from 10-12:00 Noon at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, December 27, at 12:00 Noon with The Rev. Dr. Lowell Meek, officiating.
