Howard C. Atkins

Howard C. Atkins, 82, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in his home surrounded by his beloved family. He was born April 18, 1932 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Charles H. and Orabelle Hankins Atkins. Howard served as a Sergeant First Class in the US Army where he became a Master Mechanic and an MP. He had worked 20 years for the former Menzie Dairy Co, and retired from the former GM-Fisher Body after 30 years of service. During his time as a mechanic, he operated his own business that now belongs to his son, David. Howard was a member of the Boston-Greenock-Mt. Vernon Lions Club where he was elected president 3 times due to his hard work, dedication, and contributions to the community. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Elizabeth Township Ex-Serviceman's Association. Howard was a hard working and loving man and will be missed by his family. Howard's legacy shall go on forever, never to be forgotten. "Til we meet again". He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Lorraine Chalfant Atkins, son, David Howard Atkins, and daughters, Lee Ann (Robert) Johns , and Pamela Tucker all of Elizabeth Twp. He was the beloved grandfather of Robert (Ali) Johns, Jr., Jillian (Vincent) Monti, and Jesse H. (Lauren) Johns, and beloved great-grandfather of Riley Johns and Gavin Monti. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Atkins and sister, Laura Kidd. There is no visitation or service.
