Dorothy Irene Rankin, 98, of Elizabeth Twp. died Monday, October 6, 2014. She was born October 10, 1915 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late Homer H. and Renetta L. Kaler Hess of Liberty Borough. She enjoyed being the organist and member of the Hand bell Choir for many years at Mount Vernon Community Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, reading, puzzles, playing cards with friends, and being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Early in life she worked at G.C. Murphy Co. headquarters in McKeesport in the accounting department. She is survived by her sons J. Boyd (Diana Oprosky) Rankin of Elizabeth Twp., and William H. (Deborah Stetz) Rankin of Perrysburg, OH., grandchildren, Jacqueline Pitterich, and Julie, Joshua, Pierce, and Corey Rankin; great-grandchildren, Ryan Pitterich, Olivia Mochar and Julian Huellen, and nieces, Jean Brown, Marilyn Rose, Janet Adams, Jean Martin, and Lora Heintz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John B. Rankin, sister, Martha (Hess) Rose and brother, Harold K. Hess. Visitation will be held at Wednesday October 8 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Twp., Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 12:30 PM with the Rev. William K. Little, officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Vernon Community Presbyterian Church, 2300 Buena Vista Road, McKeesport, PA 15135.
