Earl S. Carlson, 88, of Elizabeth Twp., died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at home. He was born March 13, 1926 in Dravosburg and was the son of the late Charles J. and Emily Smith Carlson. He was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, Elizabeth Twp. Senior Citizens, and the American Legion. Earl was a retired Machinist for US Steel Irwin Works with 47 years of service. He had also worked for Williams's Machine Shop in Elizabeth Twp., where he built trains that are in amusement parks all over the world. He was a US Army Air Force WWII Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Ann D. Derringer Carlson, son, Kenneth C. (Leslie) Carlson of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Cathy (Robert) Welty of West Elizabeth, grandchildren, Emaly Welty and Eli Welty, nieces, Donna (John) Orris of Port Vue, and Barbara Bean and Carolyn (Paul) Dino of AZ, and a nephew, William (Rita) Dunlay of CA. He was preceded in death by his son, James E. Carlson. Friends are welcome Tuesday, June 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, June 18, at 10:00 AM with The Rev. William Starr, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills.
