Robert W. Craven, Sr., 85, of McKeesport, was called home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2014. He was born June 14, 1928 in Scottdale and was the son of the late George W. Craven and Clara Miller Craven. He was the husband of the late Katherine Evans Craven who died March 3, 1987. He proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a member of the Majestics band, the Bowman Social Club, AMVETS, McKeesport Order of the Moose, McKeesport Irish Club, Marine Club and the Greater Pittsburgh Diabetes Association. Mr. Craven worked as a security guard in McKeesport and was also a Santa Clause at G.C. Murphy Co., Green's, and Hills Department stores for many years. He also operated a concession company that sold popcorn, candy apples etc., at many parades and events including the Allegheny County Fair. He is survived by his son, Robert W. (Sherry) Craven, Jr., daughters, Tammie Craven and Patricia (Shawn) Rodman, grandchildren, Justin (Angela), Louis, and Cindy Craven, and Sherri (David) Powell, several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald Steven Craven, brothers, Jerry, James and Donald Craven, and step-father, Joseph Orrivick. There is no visitation. Service with Military Honors will be held Saturday March 22 at 3:00 PM at the McKeesport Versailles Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Boston, Elizabeth Township. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to your favorite charity.
