Betty "Betz" Lee Greenewald

June 16, 1926 — February 21, 2014

Betty Lee "Betz" Greenewald, 87, of Elizabeth Twp., and Whitacre, VA., died Friday, February 21, 2014. She was born June 16, 1926 in Roscoe, and was the daughter of the late N.E. "Pat" and Ellen Langford Whitacre. She was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, Elizabeth Twp., and the McKeesport College Club. She was a life member and past president of the former McKeesport YWCA and served as president of Board of Directors from 1964 to 1966. She was also past president of the Garden Club of McKeesport. Betz was a retired science teacher. She taught in the Elizabeth Forward Science Dept., from 1970 to 1992 and previously taught Biology at McKeesport Technical High School from 1948 to 1955. She was awarded the Westinghouse Honor of Dedication to Science, and was the area school representative to the Mon-Yough Chamber of Commerce for the annual district science fair for 10 years. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward Greenewald, daughter, Cindy Lee (Dr. Kerry) Bertschinger and son, Robert Edward (Debbie) Greenewald of Whitacre, VA, and grandchildren, Brandy Lee, Bridget Lee and Brent Van Bertschinger and nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome Tuesday February 25 from 3-9:00 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday February 26, at 12 Noon with The Rev. William D. Heaton, officiating. Condolences may be made at www.gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com
