Edwin Austin Barton, 86, of Elizabeth Twp, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, January 23, 2014. He was born January 30, 1927 in Blaine Hill and was the son of the late Hobart M. and Clara M. Wilkins Barton. He was a charter member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, and the Central Lions Club and was a life member of VFW Post # 7632 Blaine Hill. Edwin was a WWII US Navy Veteran and served aboard the USS North Carolina and was a member of the ship's crew association. He was also a plank owner of the US Navy Memorial. Anyone who knew Ed, knew of his love for his family and his country, which he instilled within his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alma Jean George Barton, and was the beloved father of Karen S. (Gene) Cline of Hunker, Debra J. (Bill) Paranay of Economy Boro, Edwin K. (Joanna) Barton and Gregory D (Cindy) Barton of North Huntingdon, Keith H. Barton of Elizabeth and Kirk A. Barton of Irwin, brother, Hobart M. Barton, Jr, of Blaine Hill, grandchildren, Jamie (Dave) Diehl, Kaitlyn Cline, Justin Barton, Dana (Steve Dugan) Barton, Christopher Barton, Steven Cline, Seth Cline, Cristy (Jeff) Stipetic, Wendy (Ryan) Roskwitalski, Bill Paranay and Michael Paranay, great-grandchildren, Timothy and Jason Diehl, Julia and Jeffrey Stipetic, Makenzie Roskwitalski, Billy Paranay, Jr, Brayden Jackson, and Riley Paranay, and nieces and nephews and his grand dog, Duke. He was preceded in death by brothers, Allen and Dwight Barton. Friends are welcome Sunday, January 26 from 1-8 PM, at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, January 27, 2014, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ken Loomis, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
