Claire Louise Barnes Harkins, 91, of Versailles, died Monday, December 30, 2013. She was born October 24, 1922 in Versailles and was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Susanna Schwotzer Barnes. She was the wife of the late Allen F. Harkins who died April 9, 1963. Claire was a life long resident of Versailles Boro, she was a member of Versailles PTA, and was also a Cub Scout leader. She was employed by Westinghouse, Simms Fabric, Cray Brothers, and the Cavalier Lounge. She loved spending time with her family and friends, knitting and gardening and she dearly loved her cats. She will be missed and remembered lovingly by all who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Allen (Sandra) Harkins of McKeesport, and Bert Harkins of Versailles, daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Betters of North Huntingdon, grandchildren, Christopher (Ann Marie) Kramer, Jennifer (Daryl) Muzy, and Michael (Kristin) Betters, cherished GiGi to great-grandchildren, Ronnie Allyn and Derek Kramer, Katey, Andy, Sullivan and Caroline Muzy and Claire Betters. Also survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Wilda Ketchum and Emma Barnes, and brothers, Ralph, Paul, Walter and Grover Barnes. Friends are welcome Thursday, January 2 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, January 3, at 10:00 AM with The Rev. Jody Dausey, officiating. Interment will follow at the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery.
