Donald William Smith

Donald William Smith, 81, of Greenock, went home to be with his Savior on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 27, 1932 in McKeesport and was the son of the late William A. and Bertha Morgan Smith. He attended Park Baptist Church in Versailles. He was a retired manager of the McKeesport State Store, and was a member, Chaplain, and Past Commander of the former Versailles American Legion Post 939. He was also a member of White Oak American Legion Post 701, and the former Port Vue Legion Post 447. He was a 1950 graduate of McKeesport High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. A talented musician and Saxophone player, Don shared his passion for music his entire life. He began playing the Saxophone in High School and continued to play in the 314th Army Band in Germany and the 221st Army Band. In the early years, the Double Deuces Combo, playing at weddings, and later in life he ministered to his church and local nursing homes with his musical group, Just Us. Don was an avid Softball player. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Anne Barchanowicz Smith, daughter, Patricia (Tom) Orzulak of Lawrence, KS, sons, Kenneth C. (Joan) Smith of Lincoln and Donald A. Smith of Greenock, brother, Robert M. (Dolores) Smith of Elizabeth Twp, grandchildren, Jenny Cedar, Carrie Shellgren, Joshua Smith, Joseph Smith, Matthew Orzulak, and Elizabeth Lenhart, great-grandchildren, Laney Urban and Cage Cedar, brother-in-law, Dominic Guido of Easton, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Guido. Friends are welcome Tuesday December 3 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Service will be held Wednesday December 4 at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Ray Williams will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
