H. Richard (Dick) Parker, 88, of Butler, died Monday, September 16, 2013 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Good Samaritan Hospice. He was born on April 1, 1925 in Chicora, Pa. and was the son of the late Harry and Marie Hilderbrand Parker. He was a turn foreman in the silicone department of Butler Armco, now called AK Steel. He retired in 1982. He was a member of St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, a life member of the VFW, American Legion Post 117, and the Tanglewood Senior Center, where he served as president for four years. He was in the Navy serving as a Torpedo Man 2nd Class during World War II. His ship DD#677 US McDermut was in the largest Naval battle ever fought at Leyte Gulf, Philippine Islands. He enjoyed hunting for 50 years and loved to go fishing in Canada. Surviving are his children, Donna Montag of Grove City, Ohio, Joyce Voland and her husband Carl of Butler, Gay Parker of Centerville, Ohio, Rick Parker and his wife Nancy of Butler, and Cindy Hoak and her husband Mel of Butler, 7 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Parker of Cerritos, California. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Ray Parker, who he married November 27, 1947 and who died August 3, 2005. Visitation will be held at St. Peters Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, PA on Thursday September 19, 2013 from 9:20 am to 10:00 am. Mass will follow at 10:15 am.
