Oliver Charles "Jim" Levander, 96, of Gibsonia, formerly of McKeesport, slipped away quietly on Thursday, August 15, 2013. He was born November 13, 1916 in Chesterton, IN, the son of the late Sekel G. and Agnes E. Reese Levander. He was the husband of the late Anna Grace McAtee Levander of McKeesport and the late Helen Barhart Levander of Madison, TN. He is survived by his sons, Charles "Jay", Lawrence, and Richard Levander, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Jim was a graduate of Westinghouse Technical School and was a retired Maintenance Foreman for US Steel where he worked for forty years. He was Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 7 of Renziehausen Park for 27 years. Prior to moving to Tennessee, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McKeesport. Mr. Levander lived a long, productive and memorable life, from Chesterton, IN, to Chicago, IL, through the Great Depression by working in the Civil Conversation Corps. He traveled throughout the southern United States, then back to Pittsburgh to work for US Steel Irvin Works, first as a electrician then a maintenance foreman. He was a gentle, charming man with many wonderful stories about his life's travels and adventures. Until recently, he was an avid piano player. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. There is no visitation. Private inurnment will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp., and in Madison, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local Boy Scout Troop, Meals on Wheels, or your favorite charity.
