Ruth C. Layland

Ruth C. Layland, 89, of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013. She was born September 17, 1923 in the Troy Hill section of Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Jacob and Katherine Vrana Cerny and wife of the late Harry T. Layland. Ruth was a retired Legal Secretary and was a volunteer for the Better Business Bureau and Lutheran Services. She is survived by her son, Michael H. (Carolyn) Layland of Pittsburgh, Janet L. (Robert) Grunt of Denton, TX, Karen L. (Robert) Tripepi of Moscow, ID, grandchildren, Nicholas, Mary and Peter Layland, Ellen Abbott, Patricia Holmes, Beth Vail, David Ringler, Ann Luvaas, Mark and Ryan Tripepi, great-grandchildren, Austin, Sydney, Kaden, Evie, Simon, Phineas, Clementine, Reuben, Zeelie, Emma Jo, Adelaide, Brooklyn, Riley and Miles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Harry and Raymond Cerny, and sisters, Wilma Kovach, Ludmilla Lynn, Emma Jirhasek, and Elsie Braune. There is no visitation and services are private. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township.
