Mary Auman Durling, 89, a resident of Asbury Heights in Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2013 after enduring the debilitating effects of dementia. She was born in Kersey, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late George and Anna Leismeister Auman. Mary was a long time resident of Pittsburgh and was a graduate of the St. Francis Nursing School, the United States Cadet Nursing Corps. Mary retired from the former St. Francis Hospital where she was the Nursing Administrator and worked for 50 years at St. Francis and remains a St. Francis Alumnus. On October 27, 1958 in the St. Joseph's Church in the Bloomfield community of Pittsburgh, she married Richard J. Durling. Richard was a World War Two D-Day veteran as chief editor for the US Army News Corp in London, Berlin, and points between. Richard worked for the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph, NY Herald Tribune, NY Times, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Richard aka 'Dick' preceded her in death on February 17, 1970. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters Bernadette Card, Celeste Bures, Salome Schreiber, Cecelia Ciccotello, Eva Grotzinger, Imelda Frey, and four brothers Paul Auman, Eugene Auman, Francis Auman and Jerome Auman. Mary is survived by her only beloved son Jim Durling and his wife Demetra Moutis of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, a sister Martha Baumer of Altoona, along with several nieces and nephews. Mary was a member of the St. Catherine of Sienna Church in the Beechview section of Pittsburgh. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Catherine of Sienna Church on Tuesday July 23, 2013 at 10 AM, with the Reverend Pastor James Bachner officiating. Graveside service in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Kersey, Elk County, Pennsylvania is on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Mary is sadly missed and forever in the hearts of her many friends who cherished her compassionate caring, friendship, humor, joy, kindness, love, presence, selflessness, and work ethic along with many other qualities.
