Opal Smith

Opal Smith, 100, of Greenock, Elizabeth Township, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at home. She was born May 23, 1912 in Smithton, daughter of the late William and Anna Shupe Lee. She was the wife of the late Charles W. Smith who died May 14, 1973. Opal was a member of the Greenock United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid there, the Elizabeth Township Senior Citizens, and was also a Charter Volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her son, Charles G. and his wife Joan Smith of Greenock, her daughters, Lois S. Verminski and Marjorie Karnes of Greenock and Mary L. and her husband Frank Javorka of Lititz, her sister, Lucille Moskel of Smithton, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and William Lee and sisters, Mercedes Lee and Mildred Ruffing, and granchildren Mark Karnes and Joyce Verminski. Friends are welcome Wednesday March 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday March 28, at 11:00 AM with The Rev. Dr. David L. Morse, officiating. Interment will follow at the Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills. A special thank you to Three Rivers Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
